Week 2-class-Colby Hanlon

The image I chose is Car keys, 2011 by Chris Jordan. This photo depicts a car junkyard at first glance, but zooming, you realize that the photo is made up of 260,000 car keys which is equal to the number of gallons of gasoline burned in motor vehicles in the USA in 2011. This is a very artistic choice by Jordan where he shows a simple car junkyard but it holds a very real message and it puts into scope just how much gasoline is used per minute in the USA.

For technique, he selected the exact amount of car keys that would make up the number of gallons of gasoline burned in the USA as not only a stylistic choice but also to show the scale of the issue at hand.

The effect is to help make you understand just how much of a carbon footprint is left behind by motor vehicles alone. But, it is also some optimism for electric vehicles which have a much more healthy impact on the environment.
