Project 3- Rich Media

FINAL PROJECT SHOULD CONTAIN:

1. Catchy Title
2. Strong Cover image/video
3. Clear place- based, with map support
4. Character undergoes change- what is it?
5. Strong link between media and scenes
6. Meaningful conclusion pulls together content
7. Robust content- it’s long enough and well developed as a story
8. Credits for media
9. Clear description & working link in post.

Assignment 3a: Explore ArcGIS StoryMaos

• Review ArcGIS 1-4 guides
• Draft a 2-4 paragraph story proposal for peer feedback. Describe basic story idea (THIS CHANGES BECAUSE), what media you will use (upload 3 + optimized, labelled sample images) , what research you may need to do (make a list of questions that need to be answered with research & specify a few articles, places etc that will help.).
• Create a Storymap Sandbox for testing features. Add a byline in Hero section at the top. Include:
  • hero-title & image at top
  • text
  • media-background
  • express map
  • An interactive feature with 2 items , like sidecar or map tour
  • embed story in your post
• Post Project 3a:
  • Post URLs for your ArcGIS sandbox (Published; make sure it works by trying it in another browser)
  • Story proposal & research lists
  • Title: “Project 3a-yourname”
  • Use featured image & add short excerpt and category “Project 3a”

Assignment 3b: Story  Media & Structure

• Decide Story topic and scope & create new shared Storymap for your actual story
• Find or create a Theme
• Design basic  Story structure with key chapters
• Capture and/or add needed media–photos, video, audio etc for one of the sections
• Post Project 3b:
  • Post sandbox AND  story URLs
  • Describe your progress–tools & media used, how the story is developing, what challenges you face
  • Title: “Project 3b-yourname”
  • Use featured image & add short excerpt and category “Project 3b”

Assignment 3c: Research & More Media

• Expand story, continue adding media & text –this should be a compete working draft by now with defined structure.
• Add any maps, charts, or timelines needed to enrich story
• Capture or create any needed media
• Review 1 other student story and relate something interesting you will mimic or borrow. Let them know in a WordPress comment for their post.
• Post Project 3c:
  • Post story URL
  • Describe progress made and challenges at this stage, as well as what’s left to do
  • Title: “Project 3c-yourname”
  • Use featured image & add short excerpt and category “Project 3c”

Assignment 3d: Revision & Integrating Apps

• Explore other related Apps
• Gather data or info needed to use the Apps
• Integrate the ArcGIS apps into your story
• Add Audio & Sound Effects if needed
• Complete a brief reflection identifying:
  • strongest capture decision,
  • strongest story decision,
  • biggest revision,
  • next production skill to improve.
• Post Project 3d:
  • Post story URL (and sandbox if needed)
  • Describe your progress & clarify what kind of feedback or support you need
  • Title: “Project 3d-yourname”
  • Use featured image & add short excerpt and category “Project 3d”
