DESIRE PATHS PROJECT

Although I looked at desire paths all over town, I believe I will be focusing on campus alone. The concept of desire paths is paths that people make over an extended period of time that show the contrast between the way society (or just architects) want us to go in opposition to the way that we choose to go instead. I’ve always loved how people create their own ways to go and have always felt that there is a story that can go along with it- something that can explain a similarity in this and something larger, perchance societal. I have been thinking much about it lately and will continue to as I work on the project.

This is the first location I looked at. It is right outside of Hart Hall. I unfortunately only had time to take one photo. This location is significant to me because my abuser lived in Hart hall before he was fired from his military job and left the state.

This is the location that inspired my thought of making a desire path project. This location is significant to me because all my classes are either in Neville or Ferland, so I take this path frequently! This path is an ode to my sophomore year.

This location I didn’t even know was here until I started paying attention, which I feel is an ode to the things that we only notice when we are looking for them. This location is significant to me because of that thought. I often think about things like that, like how now that I have a car, I am always looking for a car that looks like it.
