Task 2- Joey C.

In the propoganda image placed above, it is enlightening travelers, tourists, and thrill hunters to never buy or sell antique pots, bowls, cups, or any other antiques that Mayans thousands of years ago have left, and we the people have been finding them and selling them to the highest bidders. This is Belizean heritage that should be in a museum and not on some person’s shelf at there estate, wherever they live. This should be kept in Belize and should be studied and learned about for future generations of the Belizean culture. Know I am not knocking the buying and selling of goods in Belize because many of the Mayans now living there are still hand-making many different things, such as bracelets, necklaces, pot holders, and daily kitchen items that you would think they need a factory to make, but realistically they make these in there small family homes, which were built by there relatives. This is very important to me because Belize is a beautiful place, full of vast woods, mountains, and hills that tower over the daily walker or driver that goes by.

To Belize, this is just there home, but to foreigners, this is a place to see new things and explore areas some people might not have ever seen. Going a little off track, archaeologists say there are a couple more Mayan ruins that are untouched and still sort of preserved in time by the forests that grew over them. One of the famous Mayan ruins is Xunantunich, which was found in the 1890’s, which is crazy to think about. Back to the main point, I think we should preserve the Mayan and Belizean heritage because it is important history for a small group of people, and these people still have rights and voices, so we should be able to listen to them and take notes on what they want to do about the buying and selling of illegal antiques.

This definitely won’t have the same viral quality as the one above because it is for a specific reason that is very niche for the Belizean culture. Although in a different way it could be because I made this for this assignment but could be used in todays world because museums are getting less people then they have been getting because nobody wants to go to a museum anymore where these artifacts from thousands of years ago are just there for you to see, which is pretty cool, but some people dont like to learn like that I like to learn by going out and finding things, which is a very hard thing to do Dont get me wrong Being someone who goes out and finds things like an archaeologist is intense work because all the before-hand research you have to do and the field work and excavation to find these artifacts takes time and effort, and with these things in the museums that the archaeologists find, I think it brings them pleasure to know that they just unlocked possibly a whole side of history we haven’t yet discovered or if we have maybe a piece to a much bigger puzzle that they have just discovered. For good news to travel faster, the news has to be something people are interested in and has meaning to alot of people, Good news about a newborn baby wont travel that fast unless you personally know them or they want to talk to you about it and let you take a half step into there life. I think to make good news travel better, we all need to be sensitive to each other and care for one another, which is something most of us do, but as they say, a metal chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and this fits perfectly into the scenario right here. If one person doesn’t like another person and they don’t hang out (the weak link in the chain), then connections will break, and passing good news to people is like the game of telephone; sometimes it will get lost in communication if people aren’t paying close attention. I personally think the news has done a good job with mediating the good and the bad because everybody knows we dont live in a perfect world, so if you only show the good things, then it will give people false hope and will make people think we live in a utopia and those things never work out well. But if we mediate the good and the bad, then people will have a balance, which everybody needs.

  1. I liked the way you described memes as propaganda because I did not think to describe them that way, but truly they can be described as propaganda. They change views, and bias people’s viewpoints at times, which is polarizing for our society and culture. I liked the historic meme background too, very classic.
