Task 2 – Bryce Dyer

The meaning behind the above meme has a drastic and significant effect on many people in our society. The meme contains a sign stating “Deposit Biden’s Votes Here” and has a arrow pointing to a toilet. Which resembles the idea that the votes for Biden are considered a waste. The meme also contains an older gentlemen wearing overalls, sunglasses and a ball cap. He is seen standing next to the sign in question. The meme seems to invalidate the populations choice for our president, by telling users of the internet who come across this meme that their votes for Biden are a waste. Overall regardless of what side you stand on, it’s extremely disrespectful and harmful to implicate such as we are founded on the ideals of democracy. Regardless of what a group or groups think, it is the majority that decides such for a country.

The meme I created to be promote positivity from the negativity that the previous meme created depicts Uncle Sam who was a central war propaganda figure in the 1900s. The image is from posters that read ” I want YOU for the U.S Army” Since he has been heavily used to promote war and violence I thought it would also be a good idea to flip that on it’s head by having him be promoting the idea that this meme is promoting about every vote counts, no matter who you vote for. Furthermore, the hope is that meme will be shared around to promote people to go out and vote in the upcoming election. I would like to think that this meme will have the same viral quality as the previous, however, I doubt that it will as positivity doesn’t sell. It’s a horrible truth of our world and political landscape but people grapple more towards the negativity not the positives.

In order for this meme to be shared more as well the way we interact and react to content online needs to change. Overall our society thrives off of negativity and violence. It may scare us and create anxiety for us, but, we still interact with it more that we would with positive posts. Many of our news stations headline the violence and war happening, not the positive things happening out in the world. We need to change how we share news for memes such as the one I created to be viral and popular. Personally, if this happened our world would change for the better, anxiety and depressions rates would most likely go down. Riots and other acts of violence would also most likely go down. Our world could be better off, we just have to be the ones to make the change.

  1. Although, I really do not like politics, and that I believe the first image may cause some uproar in the politics community. I did find the first image to be a pretty funny and humorous.
