- iNaturalist – An app that allows individuals to scan plants and animals for quick identification. This helps individuals to quickly learn about the world around them and foster a relationship with nature.
- ThreadUp – An online Thrift store. This service helps keep unwanted clothing out of landfills as well as providing people who may not have local thrift stores to shop second hand.
People Care:
- At Home, Rapid Result Covid Tests – At home rapid Result Covid Tests allowed individuals to learn quickly and from the safety of their own home if they had Covid. Individuals could purchase tests ahead of time and keep them on hand. This would allow that person to never have to leave their house during the duration of their sickness.
- Menstrual Trackers – Removed from the current political climate, menstrual trackers allow individuals who menstruate to plan ahead. Users can also track their symptoms to help them learn the physical and mental patterns of their cycle. Some apps can also be used to track ovulation and can be helpful for individuals who are trying to conceive.
- Dating apps – Dating apps were created with the idea of getting people in touch with like-minded people at the swipe of a finger. Whether they are successful at that or not is another issue. The main idea here is human connection. The ability to meet more people faster.

- Reddit – Some might hesitate to put Reddit here and I think it’s all up to the individual user. The way that I use and have seen Reddit used is as a catalog for lived experience based information sharing. There are niche subsets of Reddit where individuals can ask niche questions and typically get answers from real people who have been in your exact situation.
- Internet Based Instant Messaging (Whatsapp, Discord, Messenger, etc.) – Internet based instant messaging allows individuals to connect with others from around the world. My fiance’s family is from Brazil and they rely on Whatsapp to keep in contact with their international family members without having to pay for international data rates.
- Go Fund Me – This site allows individuals to create personal charities and gather funds via donations. It can help people in need gather funds for medical expenses, housing, funeral services, and lots of other things.
