Earth Care:

1) National Geographic Society (https://www.nationalgeographic.org/society/) – Provides information about Earth’s natural resources, which include air, water, soil, minerals, plants, and animals. “Using the power of science, exploration, education, and storytelling to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world” (National Geographic).

2) The Nature Conservancy (https://www.nature.org) – Uses an interactive calculator to learn your carbon footprint and actions to take to reduce it. “The Nature Conservancy is tackling the dual threats of accelerated climate change and unprecedented biodiversity loss. Science determines where we focus and equity guides how we achieve lasting results. Grounded by decades of local on-the-ground experience, we maximize our ability to affect change by bringing together real-world solutions, policy expertise, sustainable financing and collaborative partnerships” (The Nature Conservancy).

3) Good On You (https://goodonyou.eco/– An app that allows users to check the eco-rating of their favorite fashion brands to see how sustainable their operations really are. “The global fashion and beauty industries have a huge problem with pollution, waste and human rights abuses. Like you, we care for our planet, people and animals, and we want to live in a world that’s sustainable and fair. We are a group of campaigners, fashion and beauty professionals, scientists, writers and developers who have come together to drive that change […] Everything we do as a team contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: “Ensure sustainable production and consumption patterns”. Our recognized and trusted ethical rating system, advice and information are a part of this global mission, leading the way towards a more sustainable and fair fashion industry. Our work is also influenced by goals: 51314 and 15.” (Good On You).

 

People Care:

4)  CARE (https://www.care.org/) –  Allows people the opportunity to get involved and aid in their own communities and communities across the globe. “CARE works around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice. We seek a world of hope, inclusion and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live with dignity and security” (CARE).

5) Think Dirty (https://www.thinkdirtyapp.com/) – An app that allows users to find sustainable products, specifically cosmetics, that are good for them and the planet. “Think Dirty is a project born out of a personal journey to understand the truths in the beauty industry. Due to family history of cancer, I decided to research into the many causes behind breast cancer, including ‘toxic’ ingredients in cosmetic and personal care products […] Think Dirty empowers and educates the consumer on the cosmetics industry by allowing them to make an informed decision on what products to purchase” (Lily Tse – Founder and CEO).

6) BetterHelp (https://www.betterhelp.com/) – An online therapy service that aims to provide equitable care for communities and companies in need. They also support under-resourced individuals. “BetterHelp was founded in 2013 to remove the traditional barriers to therapy and make mental health care more accessible to everyone. Today, it is the world’s largest therapy service — providing professional, affordable, and personalized therapy in a convenient online format. BetterHelp’s network of over 30,000 licensed therapists has helped millions of people take ownership of their mental health and work towards their personal goals. As the unmet need for mental health services continues to grow, BetterHelp is committed to expanding access to therapy globally” (BetterHelp).

7) Duolingo (https://www.duolingo.com/) – A free school app that helps people learn languages through personalized, fun learning that gamifies the experience. “Our ultimate goal is to give everyone access to a private tutor experience through technology […] There are over 1.2 billion people learning a language and the majority are doing so to gain access to better opportunities. Unfortunately, learning a language is expensive and inaccessible to most. We created Duolingo so that everyone could have a chance. Free language education – no hidden fees, no premium content, just free. Duolingo is used by the richest man in the world and many Hollywood stars, and at the same time by public schools students in developing countries. We believe true equality is when spending more can’t buy you a better education” (Duolingo).

8) TED (https://www.ted.com/) – Gives individuals access to short, influential videos that share knowledge and research on a wide range of topics. “TED is a non-profit that believes powerful ideas, powerfully presented, move us: to feel something, to think differently, to take action […] TED is devoted to curiosity, reason, wonder and the pursuit of knowledge — without an agenda. We welcome all who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and we invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in your community.” (TED).

9) Quora (https://www.quora.com/) – An open source created to give individuals the ability to gain and share knowledge. It’s a platform to ask questions and connect with people who contribute unique insights and quality answers. “Quora’s mission is to share and grow the world’s knowledge. Not all knowledge can be written down, but much of that which can be, still isn’t. It remains in people’s heads or only accessible if you know the right people. We want to connect the people who have knowledge to the people who need it, to bring together people with different perspectives so they can understand each other better, and to empower everyone to share their knowledge for the benefit of the rest of the world” (Quora).
