Task 2 – Madyson Whitlock

There’s millions and billions of memes all over the internet, they’ve been popular for years and can almost find any type of subject possible good or bad. One of the more popular ones of the bunch is the infamous yo mamma jokes, these types of memes usually entail jokes towards Mothers weight or intelligence.

The majority of the time if not all these kinds of memes are used as “jokes” but some that have been seen are taken a bit too far to the point it’s no longer a funny argument line you hear in a movie between two children or teens such as the movie “The Waterboy” with Adam Sandler with many other examples behind it.

This could be led on as a harmless joke among people but it could hit a sore spot for some of the mothers this joke is aimed at depending on how much fire power and rudeness is added onto the joke, like earlier with speaking about a woman’s weight or intelligence- though the joke is mostly used to offend another person’s mother that you’re arguing with it still has consequences deep down that cut deeper than people may realize with how society pressures women’s appearances already, this is a tough topic for them of course.

To counter this I’ve created a more positive memes, it has the same sort of concept as the original but instead of jabs and insults I turned it into compliments, surrounding it in hearts with a nicer messages. Would this type of meme be able to make it just as big and become just as “viral?”

It probably would not be able to reach the same momentum that the original joke had but I still feel like this could possibly become a small thing on a platform like TikTok where things such as that can easily become viral, such as the current dolphin meme going around that has sort of a fun colorful background that I used to recreate a nicer yo mama meme down below. Small things like that with a catchy toon have a chance at becoming viral.

When it comes to good news and bad news today nationally, bad news always seems to have the upper hand. The reality is that’s just what people are more drawn to today. With national news organizations like NBC or CNN it’s always filled to the brim with things about wars or the most upcoming presidential debate which comes with much controversy and maybe- just maybe at the end has a cute video of a baby panda at a zoo. How could we make more positive news travel faster though? At this point it seems to be impossible, the only way I can imagine it happening is through local news sources where things are much more small scaled, there’s lots of horrible things happening in the world but when you sit at home in your small town and turn on your local news what real bad is there near you? Nothing could compare in scale. I think the way we could make it travel faster is through smaller sources that slowly spread around until it can be national but other than that I’m not sure I can see a future with the good coming first.

If organizations want to balance the bad and the good in the news world, I think many different steps would have to be taken. First of all, news organizations, as bad as it is focus on harsher events to draw the viewers in because everything has become so dramatized over the past few years worse than the following. In order to balance the two, I think it’s really just about what the viewers want to see, what gets a rise out of them? A story about a small business store with a nice old lady in it selling baked goods or horrible big name court cases on tv? If only there was a way to get big stories with some good in it too, at times there could be good news like a celebrity is having a baby or getting married, or maybe Taylor Swift won some other type of award again- but these topics only stay current for so long unlike the bad that could be analyzed for months. At the end of the day, I think the only way to have good balance is to get equal exposure on both the good and bad because good things do happen everyday around the world, it’s just no one is filming or talking about them yet.
