Task 1 – Jack Brooks

Earth Care:

Example 1: My first idea when it comes to earth care and technology is the apps that you can find on your phone that allow you to take a photo of a plant, tree, garden, etc, and through the technology in the phone and online, it can tell you what kind of plant it is, and possibly how it’s doing. Whether it needs to be watered, needs more soil, or needs some nutrition. A good example of how this good is beneficial to the earth is it allows more people to grow plants or their gardens. Gardens can be a good way to create food that doesn’t have to be transported by ship, trucks, or planes, but grown in one’s backyard. It is also more cost-efficient for the person growing the plants.

Example 2: Creating reusable sources of energy is very important to our sustainability on the planet. Technology has been able to advance that idea by creating electrified cars, solar panels, and many more things. I believe the next step in advancing this however is to make it more affordable for most people, solar panels and cars that are electric are typically more expensive than the alternative which is a power line to your house or a gas-powered vehicle.

Example 3: I believe that preserved trails and areas of nature are another example of earth care. Most parks and trails are free to whoever would like to hike and also allow those who do like to have a safe environment where they don’t have to worry about hunting season and loud vehicles around. It also benefits the planet, providing a safe haven for some of the beautiful places that our planet has to offer.

People Care:

Example 1: Better Help is an online service that provides counseling for those who need it. It typically is an affordable service that lets users have control over who they are matched with as well as lets users change counselors if things are working out well. It’s also something that doesn’t have to have a set time like every Tuesday at 4 PM, instead allowing you to have a meeting when it best suits you. I believe that this is a positive thing for individuals but is very widespread allowing it to therefore improve community connections.

Example 2: Another example of people care would be technology that improves our health. With most people having some sort of technology in their pockets daily, most phones come with built-in activity or fitness apps that can tell you how much you walk around, your heart rate, and other important vitals. Most of these also come free much like the weather app on your phone, meaning you don’t have to pay money for something very important. I believe that this benefits any person who has the goal to become more healthy in their day-to-day lives.

Example 3: Weather apps are an example of fair share. Allowing people to keep up to date with storms and any other weather that could do detrimental damage to their lives. This is something that benefits people and communities and is also accessible to anyone with a phone or television.

Fair Share:

Example 1: Online free platforms that educate people and are typically very widely available. My first thoughts go to Wikipedia, Britannica, and YouTube. they are all free platforms that can help people find valuable information. However, the few drawbacks are the fact that you as the reader or viewer must understand that not all the information is accurate and that double-checking sources is very important.

Example 2: Community college is another example of fair share. It allows students to further their education typically for a much lower cost than other schools. This benefits the communities and the workforce as a whole.

Example 3: Online website that allow people to raise money is another example for fair share. Allowing people to help others as well as supporting organizations that want to benefit the planet are super helpful to both people and the earth. It also allows people to raise money for ideas that they might have furthering innovation.
