Location A: The Graveyard
I took these photos for another class but they’re just important to me. I like to use graveyards to think about things and gather ideas for my stories, and Orono has quite a few good ones. This graveyard has been my most recent one to venture and I’ve made some decent memories here already. Each grave tells a story, along with the setting itself.

A grave that shares the last name of a character I wrote, and also a childhood friend. It lacked details, but stood clean and smooth.

This grave has fallen apart. Curious how it could have such a clean break. Will someone fix it?

An interesting name to me, with the grave itself being of a huge scale.

Another grave that shares the last name of a character I created.

The Virgin Mary stood out to me, especially with the age of the grave. Who put this here? Is the statue just that old?

A row of graves, that really shows the scale of the cemetery
Subject B: The Rat
My van that’s been a long work in progress. She may not be a location, but she’s had a lot of significance and story to me. It may be stretching the parameters a bit, but I think she’s worth it. Even without the story of the Rat’s revival, it’s clear that there’s plenty of character to go around already.

A broken down old rat at a body-shop lot. Nothing more than a shell here.

Returned from the shop. She’s been stripped of her stripes but free of rust. Remains in limbo.

The work begins. The Rat experiences even more stripping down before things can be reattatched.

The Rat and its sibling. Progress is coming quickly.

Despite the other projects, The Rat remains on the brain and in the background.

With a lot of love, The Rat is about 95% there. She runs, stops, and somewhat drives. Roof rack added and other details.

Now ready to return to the road, The Rat is worthy of regaining it’s groovy stripes!

2-Make another list of techniques or choices that could be improved to make the story even better. Explain how/why they would improve the story.
Photos
- What’s working?–why?
- photos are clear and subject is clear as to what it is. I like the black and white as it helps focus. Could work for graves but not van.
- What would you change/improve? why?
- the ways things are framed and captioned make me feel like I’m reading an obituary.
Story
- What’s working?–why?
- a consistent story can be found
- chronological
- What would you change/improve? why?
- Almost feels like the author is trying too hard to be poetic. Makes me feel like the captions are less genuine than they could be.
- Kind of confused as to which era is which due to confusing descriptions.
Layout/design
- What’s working?–why?
- Captions look very good and full, but you can tell which photo they describe. Different layouts keep attention.
- What would you change/improve? why?
- I don’t like the curly letter at the beginning of each title. It’s distracting and pulls from the vibe
Peer Feedback
I like the photos you took of the graves, the placement of the graves in the shots are helpful to understand what they are further conveying/who they hold. I would lighten up some of the photos, or retake them at a different time so you can see the names/dates/quote. Overall I enjoy the idea of looking beyond the physical object and looking into its history.
