Chris Jordan Photo Practice

Form:

The photo was supposed to demonstrate the amount of fuel wasted in the US by somehow showing this physically. The image is made up of one key per gallon of fuel burned in the US every minute, which is enough keys and content to use as an almost pixel type medium for an image related to the fuel and keys, which is junked cars.

Effect:

Because we cannot get anything even close to a photo or any medium that depicts the amount of fuel wasted in a minute in the USA physically, the image uses the shock of some form of “pure amount item”, (item that CAN be shown in a high quantity) to represent the fuel, which combined with the medium and new image both being related to the issue of cars and waste at hand, gets you thinking beyond just the waste of the fuel, but each aspect of the car (wasted cars, wasted keys).
