Technology and its effects on people are changing by the second. There isn’t a second in the day that hasn’t been affected by technology in a way. However, today I want to talk about how social media has changed the world, specifically how it has changed the world of musicians. Recently, Social Media has had a tight grip on the world, which has allowed musicians to prosper more than ever before. Arguably the thing musicians have used social media the most for is their advertising and marketing. Musicians are now able to easily announce their newest music, collaborations, or concerts. There has never been a time where musicians have been able to easily drop information until now.

With social media, musicians are able to tell the public when their music is coming out completely for free. Before social media, musicians would advertise their upcoming music on the television, billboards, or through the radio. Now with the use of social media, not only will the public benefit but the musicians would as well. The public is easily able to learn more about musicians and learn when new music is coming out. On top of the public benefiting, the musicians would also benefit from concert-goers posting videos of the concert, which could also give the musician free advertising and publicity.

Now let’s think about a scenario where the old way of advertising music magically disappeared and now the only way to advertise music was through social media. If this were to happen I don’t think much would change. Nowadays, artists only really market their music on social media. Think back to the last time you heard about new music on the radio or television. The only issue with artists advertising on social media is you can’t really trust the release dates they give you sometimes. For example, Kanye West (who is infamous for not following through on music release dates) would constantly post about posting new music soon and giving a release date only for him never to actually release the music. Radio stations would/have been suffering ever since music advertising has moved to social media.
