Project 3B – Jazzmyne Haines

Story Topic

The main topic of this story is centered around a person from Mount Desert Island, who is a bit bitter about their home as they spend time away from it, remembering how much they loved the place when they open up the photo library on their phone and scroll through their pictures. Each photograph is associated with mini-story involving a treasured moment in time, which makes the character more grateful for the place they came from.

Theme

I might pick a different theme for later drafts, but for the time being, I’m using the Sandstone theme that I put together last week. I wanted to make it look a little bit like a well-worn journal or an old scrapbook with pages yellowed from time.

Progress

I’m currently relying mostly on photographs I’ve taken of MDI on my iPhone. I’m giving each of them their own snippet of text, which I’ll be treating as their own “chapters” in the story. I may add some other kind of creative writing later (Joline had suggested poetry), but for now, I’ll stick with plain narrative prose.

I’ve done a little bit of research, just to add flavor and fill up the Works Cited section a little bit. I will find more information as I work on the project.

I’m currently trying to tie in the concept of disillusionment the character has with their home at the beginning, so I can use the different photos and their backstories to melt away the cynicism with warm, fuzzy nostalgia.
