Project 2b – Grace Cesarini

Step Outside

Situation:

A college student in Maine feels disconnected and burnt out from the constant screen time and deadlines of college. She spends most days indoors, barely noticing the changing world outside her window and burnt out from endless screen time, assignments, and digital blur of everyday life.

Desire:

She longs to feel present again and to reconnect with the natural world and to listen to the sounds of nature instead of the constant keyboard clacks.

Conflict:

She keeps telling herself she’ll take a break, after one more assignment, one more study session, but the cycle never ends. Her days blur together, filled with caffeine, deadlines, and the pressure to always be productive. The more she works, the more drained she feels, and the further away nature seems.

Change:

She realizes she’s been so focused on keeping up with school that she’s completely lost touch with the world outside.  She closes her laptop and takes a trip outside. As she slows down and starts to really notice the way the sunlight shines through the trees, the soft rustle of leaves, and the rhythm of her footsteps, she begins to feel grounded again.

Result:

By the time she heads home, she carries a quiet sense of balance. The peace she was missing wasn’t anything crazy.  It was just waiting for her to simply look up and get outside.
