Indelible Contours of Home

“Home is memory, home is dream.”

Charles Henry Parkhurst

Tracing hexagons and diamonds with my eyes closed.

Historic permanence when eyes meet the ceiling.

A frame that changes with the seasons.

Otto’s Corner.

The rise and fall of six.

The morning sun knocks on closed curtains.

Phantom mulberry and sapphire.

Shadow meets reflection, it travels where I cannot.

A flicker of family dinners.

The fallow passage.

My childhood home has stained my memory not only with echoes of what’s happened within its walls, but with visuals that have appeared on them throughout my life. These casts of light, familiar patterns, and reflections illustrate the transformation that is me. I carry the remembrance of all the years spent in good company with these markings, memorizing each detail without even realizing it. From the dizzying hexagonal tiles of my bathroom to the 1800s tin ceiling in my dining room, each piece of home feels like a part of me. These details trace my memories like a map, leading me to who I have since become.

  1. I really liked the clever usage of contrasting B&W in these photos. You’re using light as something that solely reveals the story you’re telling and I admire the fact that we’re left in the dark about the rest. It really leaves us wondering what we’re really missing.

  2. All of these photos are so gorgeous! I love the way the light frames the tiles in the first photo, and also how you were able to capture the lace shadow in the last one.
