Lonely park bench under
a streetlight in Bayside.
Silhouette under a
streetlight by the pier.
These photos were taken in the neighborhood right beside where I grew up, Bayside. Being from just outside the neighborhood, I never felt intertwined with the community; I felt like an outsider. And so instead of hanging out with the neighborhood kids during the day, I would walk around at night. It felt quieter, more my tempo. Eventually, the pier became a routine spot for me. I would walk down at night, especially during the summers, and look out over the bay. It would really help me clear my head when I had too much going on or when I felt particularly down.

My friend looking back
at the old train tracks.
These pictures were taken at a hiking trail by the train tracks along the Belfast Bay. The trail became particularly important to me during my senior year of high school because it was “the spot” where all my friends would meet after school. We would always hang out in a secluded trail opening just outside of the center of town and so we would often walk along the numerous hiking trails around the area or the train tracks nearby, talking for hours. Afterwards, when it would get dark, we would meet up at the city park’s tennis courts and play under the big spotlights until nearly midnight. During the few short months before the end of high school I had many of my fondest memories on this trail and around town.
