Project 1 Photo Story – Frank Albert

Reflection:

While working on this photo story project, I researched and observed how the river and train bridge connect its own history to the present, and how it continues to leave an impact with those who walk its banks. I was able to capture many aspects of this area, from the old withered tracks and trails we walk, to the aged river and bridge themselves, along with moments and memories shared between my friends and I. Every time I went back to take more images of this area, I noticed I was quite often accompanied by others who live close by. I find it interesting that so many others, besides my friends and I, find comfort in this place and have reason to return. Choosing this location for Project 1 allowed me to not only highlight the scenery of the area, but also show how it is a living part of our history and story.

There were, however, some lacking points within my project I noticed while finishing up. I feel as if I could have focused more on perspective, getting closer, more detailed images that reflect how I feel about this location. While there were some photos I took that achieved this, they would not quite fit with the structure of this story so I decided to leave them out. Including sensory detail was something I noticed my project lacked such as sounds, smells and textures of specific aspects of this location. I also could have experimented more with different camera angles and techniques. Maybe capturing motion, such as ripples in the water, reeling a fish in or casting out in the water would add more energy and life to the project. I also could have tried to visit this area in different times of the day in order to give the location more of an emotional range.
