Phoebe Ackor – Project 3c

MY DRAFT

My Project Is About:

My experience growing up as a dancer, the joy I got from performing, and the battles I faced with anxiety, body image, and burnout, leading me to step away from dance completely.

I Still Need To:

Finish drafting my final chapters, add more media like photos and videos, and fully round out my story using maps, audio, and other arcgis elements.

I’ll Be Working On Capturing:

Pivotal moments in my dance journey, which includes the first studio I danced in, travel team, competitions, and all of the turning points that impacted me along the way. I also want to capture sensory details like the studio environment and performance experiences on stage.

My Main Story Is This:

As young girl I fell in love with dance and all it could offer me. It helped me grow into a fierce performer, but as my studio expanded and the environment shifted, I struggled with anxiety, comparison, and an eating disorder. My last and final competition turned into a breaking point, causing me to step away from dance entirely. I now reflect on what it all taught me about myself and what it is that I value.

*NOTE*

I completely changed directions for my StoryMap project from a story of Christmas to a story of dance. After working on the draft for my Christmas themed story, I realized it didn’t have the structure I needed for a strong narrative with a conflict/resolution. I decided to focus on my experience growing up as a dancer instead, knowing that I can form a better narrative. Because of this shift, I don’t have as much media or completed sections as I had originally planned.

  1. While looking at your story I was instantly drawn into the story’s setting from the theme. With the light pink and cursive font on some of the headings, it was easy to tell the story would have some form in dance. For my story, I definitely would want to go back and change the theme of my story, maybe by adding more warm colors or finding a map that resembles more of a postcard, like a vacation theme?
