Opening Scene – shows setting, VO is talking about the background of the story
Everyday Life – Prince Ashitaka and Yakul are defending their lands
Theme – Wise woman tells Prince Ashitaka he must travel to the west to face conflict without hatred
Disruption – Prince Ashitaka is sentenced to death and exiled from this bite by the demon
Debate – The men of the town debate for Ashitaka to stay because he was only trying to defend the town
New World – This scene shows the setting change, and the wide angle is a hint that he is traveling far.
Mentor – The overall mentor of the story is the Forest Spirit, who has the power of both life and death which can be a metaphor for the fighting between the humans and beasts.
Helper 1 – The Kodama helped Prince Ashitaka find his way throughout the story
Helper 2 – San and the wolves helped Ashitaka throughout the story, but also stalled it at first when they were also using violence
Helper 3 – The town women helped throughout the story, and while they were mislead in using violence they ultimately were trying to save their town and the people within.
Helper/Enemy – Lady Eoboshi is both a friend and enemy. She is ruining the forest to try to protect her people and their town.
Enemy – Jigo acts as an enemy by using others to serve his own purposes knowing the cost
The Darkest Hour – The forest spirit is killed because of all of the violence and misunderstanding
The Final Battle – In a rush to save the forest, San and Ashitaka give the head back to the spirit
Resolution – Iron town and the forest go back to it’s natural state, and San and Ashitaka resolve their fight
