3C – Nate Walker

My storymap has developed nicely and is past the half way point.

So far I have three chapters:

  1. Penobscot Speaks to main character and shows him visions of its past.
  2. Main character has a reflective walk home, stopping by the mill and remembering his visions of its past.
  3. The Penobscot Contacts the Main Character again through his dream, showing him a vision of the reopening and the sodium hydroxide spill of June 29, 2022, which saw over 1000 gallons of sodium hydroxide pour into the in a single day.

Chapters I still want to add:

4. Through his dream and visions, the main character begins to sympathize and relate to the river.

5. The narrator reviews data and charts of pollution history, trying to plan a better path forward. As he reaches the conclusion of his plan, the river shows him a final hopeful vision.

I have captured a lot of new media, including photos & videos of the Mill, the River, and my walk home from these spots. I have integrated sidecars to emphasize the photos and video’s accompanying certain parts of the story. I have also added a swipe feature, allowing the viewer to visualize what the main character sees before and after the river sends him to a vision of the past. I also want to integrate charts and data for the final chapter, using real information to plan a better future for the Penobscot.
