I am happy with my concept and want to continue exploring it. I created a StoryMap and chose a satisfying but simple cream theme. I want the photos to be the central focus of the viewer, so I picked a theme that wouldn’t detract from that.

Structure:

  1. First Contact (A present day walk by the river near the Old Town Mill; Protagonist hears the River’s voice for the first time)
  2. Before the Build (The River tells the story of it’s younger years before it was industrialized; Protagonist flashes back to the respectful relationship the river once had with locals)
  3. Smoke on the Water (The River tells the story of the mill and it’s pollution; Protagonist flashes back for the first time)
  4. Repair efforts (The River discusses current pushes to revitalize, Protagonist sees visions of the present and University.)
  5. A Revitalized River (The future we could choose through sustainable practices)

So far I have built the intro, and begun the rough layouts for the next two sections. So far I have included photos of the Old Town Mill and the river, a campus shot, and a graphic highlighting the places at the core of my story. I think my biggest challenge will be integrating the University into the story, as it isn’t actually a core element. The story is the relationship between the towns and the river, but the University offers additional perspective that I think would benefit the story.
