Project 2C – Nate Walker

Humanity pushed the balance too far. Centuries of noise and pollution finally fractured the natural order. The planet evolved, through necessity, to counter the humans poisoning it. The ecosystem began to develop defensive patterns. The world is no longer bound by human science.

The story unfolds during the start of this turning point, where humanity first realizes it’s no longer becomes compatible with the restored natural world. Life has become an unbearable in these early months, and my character is at his wits end. Driven by nostalgia and longing, he steps outside into the new Earth.

This project has been challenging for me, both conceptually and technically. My scene selection was focused around areas of natural growth coinciding with human structures/waste, because they naturally allow for a dystopian feel. Coupling this with advanced special effects, including: Chromatic Abborations, Glitchify, Motion Detect, Twitch, and Shake, allowed me to create the psychedelic and chaotic visuals I wanted. Using opacity and audio fades, as well as motion detect, creates the feeling that we are jumping from location to location in the same disoriented way my character does.

To improve this further, I need to work with the audio. By having the volume fade out and back in during blackouts, in enhances that effect.  With how intense the visuals are, I feel that the scene would benefit from accompanying audio. The point of this project is to be as immersive as possible. I want to create the scenario my character is enduring as vividly and accurately as possible.

  1. Interesting sounds and effects though the latter part of the video.

The opening is a nice contrast v=between plain white interior, and colorful exterior–I wonder in the revers shot could work–going back inside?

I’m still looking for the story. While your text suggests a dystopian story, the visuals dont really convey this.

What if you assume that the outdoors (nature) is actually a reflection of the charatcer’sinner life. It fall, getting cold, colors are popping then fading, what is happening to theis character? Can you use effects to tell this or a similar story?

Pay attention to what changes–how are things different at the ned?
