Title: Symbiosis
Humanity pushed the balance too far. Centuries of noise and pollution finally fractured the natural order. The planet evolved, through necessity, to counter the forces poisoning it. The ecosystem began to develop defensive patterns. The worlds systems are no longer bound by human science. In this world, nature has started to reclaim control of its systems.
The story unfolds during the start of this turning point, where humanity first realizes it’s no longer becomes compatible with the restored natural world. Life has become an unbearable in these early months, and my character is at his wits end. Driven by nostalgia and longing, he steps outside into the new Earth.
- Starting Point – A lone figure steps out from his shelter and into the overgrown forest.
- Desire – He longs for reconnection, to be a part of the system that once accepted us. He wants humans to be a welcome part of Earth once more, but more specifically, he wants to be a part of the earth once more. The digital world is all that is left for humanity, and he’s sick of it.
- Conflict – As he walks deeper, the environment shifts in impossible ways. Sounds echo, Colors distort, and nature seems to reject him. As he progresses, he falls deeper into a delirious state induced by the environment. His thoughts gradually become less human and individual. As his mental slips deeper, he begins to hear what he was longing for, the call of the collective.
- Change – He loses almost all of his Human processes. Nature is purging his toxic human elements. Breaking him down into something primal and pure.
- Result – He dissolves into the landscape, becoming another part of the world rebirth. It is an ambiguous ending as he finds the connection he was looking for, at a steep cost.
I will recreate this scenario through visual effects in After Effects. Each effect (Chromatic Aberrations, Fractal noise, Motion detect, displacement map, etc) will represent a defensive response from nature. The film will be portrayed as one shot, but blackouts, opacity flashes, and motion detect will allow me to jump between locations seamlessly.
