While thinking about this specific location for Project 1, I became more invested in the history of this railway and bridge. After more research, I find it interesting that in the 1800s the tracks were used to transport lumber and goods from Bangor to Old Town while the river experienced ice blockage. Today, the tracks are still in use, but my friends and I have taken a new meaning to the area. The first time we came to this spot, I remember walking through the running water to get to a deeper section while thinking about the depth: how upset I would be if I fell in, or if I would even be able to catch anything. Seeing the older images of the difference in water levels, especially due to rainwater, made me realize how much the river itself has shaped both the landscape and the people around it.

I like the historical perspective you chose to frame your story with. It’s super interesting to think about how previous generations of people, all with their own separate lives and experiences, interacted with the places you interact with in your life.
Great photos! I love the inclusion of the past v the present photos, really adds depth to the story being told!
