I used to think of New Media as media production or computer science with a creative application; after reading the article and watching the video in class, I realize New Media is much broader and more influential than I ever knew. New Media redefines how we interact and communicate with one another. Many to many communication is impossible without New Media technologies and serves as the epitome of communication, allowing for personalized experiences for the masses.
Crowdfunding has certainly disrupted the traditional relationship between manufacturers and consumers, allowing for the individual to personally affect how a design develops and what projects receive funding. I wonder how close this can be considered as many to many however, as it is still mass production. I also wonder how Kickstarter sets itself apart from traditional crowdfunding?
