Task 5

  1. Mark’s major event that leads him to involves himself, alongside another character, Mary, who he meets standing alone at a house party. Mary introduces Mark to the concept of caring less about being perceived by others. When Mark is confronted by her initial open-mindedness about the subject, he bats her off and tells her that there’s always consequences to unthought actions. She then tells him “thats not what I’m saying at all.” and ends up leaving without a trace. Initially unbothered, these words linger in Mark’s mind, triggering something inside his mind.

  1. This First Plot Point may seem favorable at first, as we sense a possible sense of liberation and a new perspective on life through Mary’s introduction and influence on mark. However, complications could arise as he soon realizes the implications of stepping outside his comfort zone.

  1. While the event may not be disastrous by any means, it introduces complications and conflicts that Mark hadn’t anticipated, creating a sense of curiosity in his life.

  1. Mark initially resists embracing the First Plot Point, as it challenges his established beliefs. However, as he grapples with the new perspective introduced by Mary, he might eventually choose to explore this unconventional path willingly and his arc continues.

  1. I don’t really think Mark will have a hard time exploring his arc as a character, and ultimately finding his way towards his ultimate ‘need’ and eureka moment. Most will be explained through key events throughout the story.

  1. This event will likely temporarily remove Mark from his ‘Normal World’, exposing him to a different way of thinking and living through his interaction with Mary. That ‘pull’ will increase as more events occur during the story.

  1. Mark’s reaction to this event will be a mix of curiosity, reluctance, and internal conflict. He may feel an extremely temporary sense of liberation by viewing Mary’s character from the outside, but also face a fight within himself as he navigates the clash between his current beliefs and the new perspectives introduced by Mary.

  1. In response to the First Plot Point, Mark may slowly (keyword slowly) begin to form a new set of goals centered around discovering more about Mary’s lifestyle, understanding the concept of not caring about others’ opinions, and exploring his own identity beyond societal expectations.

  1. This introduction puts Mark’s feet on a crossroads, to the path to his new Truth by challenging his original ‘want’—the desire for people to like him. It prompts him to question the validity of societal norms and consider the possibility of embracing a more authentic version of himself.

  1. The First Plot Point creates a new world where Mark will face mostly emotional turmoil for acting according to his old ‘Lie’. This punishment will being to show itself in the form of internal conflict, straining his relationships with those who uphold to Mark’s original values, or challenges/ongoing events that force him to confront and overcome his preconceived notions.
