Task 5 – Abbi Downer

What major event will slam into your character’s Normal World and force him to alter his original plans?

My main character’s only surviving grandmother will pass away in the beginning of my story. Or we will have found out that this has happened. The grandmother and the main character were very close due to her being the only surviving grandparent for all of the main character’s life. It will come as a shock, as the grandmother was seemingly happy and healthy before passing away in her sleep. This will send the main character into grief, but since they have not had to experience this level of grief before in their life it will be hard for them to process. This will lead to the main character’s mother being concerned for them and deciding to take them on a canoeing trip to get away from the hustle and bustle and find some peace and space to feel her emotions (hopefully).

4. Or will this event be obviously disastrous?

This will be disastrous to the main character in the beginning.

5. Will the protagonist willingly embrace the First Plot Point and walk into the Second Act under his own power?

The main character will not necessarily want to go on the canoeing trip, but her mother and her are close and therefore she is convinced and tries to embrace the decision.

7. Will the First Plot Point destroy the Normal World? Or will it physically remove your character from the Normal World? Or will it warp the Normal World around the protagonist?

It destroys the protagonists normal world, because a close family member has passed away. They had a close relationship and the grandmother’s house was a place of memories and comfort.

10. How will the First Plot Point put your character’s feet on the path to his new Truth?

By going on the canoeing trip, the main character is unknowingly being forced into feeling her grief. They are in a rural area with no cell service and no distractions. The stream that they end up having to canoe through will be riddled with dropping spiders and the main character will be forced to carry on despite being uncomfortable.
