For the prompt, regret something you did, I work at a Shaws grocery store in my home town. I have been working there since I was in high school, going on five years or so now. I got promoted to a customer service representative a couple of years after I started working and have been one every sense. I know most of the ins and outs around the service desk and have been around a lot of different situations to help my knowledge on what to do right. This experience of regret that I have was fairly recent, just last year sometime during the beginning of summer. I usually work the night shift so after all the morning crew leave it’s only me who is in charge of the front and the service desk, and the night time manager but they don’t have any experience with the service desk so they tend to leave that to the csr on duty. At the service desk you can buy lottery tickets, and in the safe we have extra packages of lottery tickets to put in the empty slots when we run out of a package. This customer who I kind of know from seeing her in the store but I don’t know her well, came up to the service desk. I ask how she is doing and what she needs, and she says that she wants to buy some scratchers but wants to buy a certain one. We don’t have the one that she wants out in the case so she asks me to go check in the office to see if we have the ones she wants away in there. I said ok, and went inside to look in the safe to see if we have any packages of the one she wants. We do have a package, and I tell her that. She says to me that she wants to just buy the whole package. I give her a confused face because I have never done the before and the whole package costs around two hundred dollars. She mentions that she has bought packages before, and for some reason I had no problem with agreeing with her that it’s no big deal and agree to ring it up. On the package it says written how many are in the package and how much it is in total so I rang it up for her, she pays and leaves with it. My CM Jenn, was still in the store shopping just getting done with her shift so I tell her about what I just did because I felt uneasy about it and I wanted to make someone aware. She tells me that the packages in the safe have not been processed so if the customer wins something and tries to cash it out it will just pop up as not process, essentially not being able to collect any winnings. She goes into frantic mode and calls the book keeper Jane, who tells Jenn that if we have the information of the package that was sold she can process the whole package manually without having to see it. Thankfully since I felt off about doing the whole thing in the first place I did write down everything about the package. So the book keeper came in and processed the package and everything was fine in the end. Just had a bit of a scolding from my boss understandably but other than that did not get into trouble because everything was fixed.
After retelling this story to my roommate I think I was most worried about looking dumb because this was such I dumb thing to do but I was just never put into this situation before so my body shut down while everything was going on, but thank god I wrote down all that information because if I didn’t it would have gone extremely down hill for me.
