It requires curiosity, attention, and a reason to care. Your story might reveal something hidden, capture a change, explore a memory, or help viewers see an ordinary place differently.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Start Close to Home<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Choose a place<\/strong><\/span> you can easily visit at least 2\u20133 times to observe, film, and capture sound. Think within a 10\u201330 minute walk, bike ride, or drive. Or \u00a0a place you can and want to visit more than once.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Where do you go regularly but rarely pay close attention?<\/li>\n<li>Where do you feel curious, comfortable, uneasy, or connected?<\/li>\n<li>What place would you miss if it disappeared?<\/li>\n<li>Where do people gather, work, play, or spend time alone?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Write down three possible locations, specifying your top choice<\/strong><\/span>. Think small: a bench, path, bus stop, garden, stream, caf\u00e9, or campus building can be enough.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Find the Story Hidden in the Place<\/h3>\n<p>For your top \u00a0location, ask:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>What&#8217;s<\/strong><\/span> happening here? Look for an activity, ritual, conflict, or change.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Whose<\/strong><\/span> story is here? Consider people, animals, plants, or communities connected to it.<\/li>\n<li>What&#8217;s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>surprising<\/strong><\/span> or overlooked? Find something most people wouldn&#8217;t notice.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Why<\/strong><\/span> does it matter? What could this place reveal about belonging, memory, nature, culture, or change?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Step 3: Imagine the Video<\/h3>\n<p>Visit your strongest location for 10 minutes, without filming at first.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>See: What <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>five different shots<\/strong><\/span> could tell this story?<\/li>\n<li>Imagine: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>What cuts<\/strong><\/span> could you use to edit these shots into a story? \u00a0Try to imagine at least two.<\/li>\n<li>Hear: What <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>sounds<\/strong><\/span> make this place distinctive?<\/li>\n<li>Discover: What <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>question<\/strong><\/span> could you investigate or what small story could unfold?<\/li>\n<li>Feel: What should viewers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>understand or experience<\/strong><\/span> by the end?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 4: Test Your Idea<\/h3>\n<p>Is your idea ready?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I can safely and easily visit this place more than once.<\/li>\n<li>I can film interesting images, details, or actions here.<\/li>\n<li>I have a specific question, person, activity, or change to explore.<\/li>\n<li>I can capture useful sound and get permission where necessary.<\/li>\n<li>I can tell a meaningful story in just 2\u20134 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Use any UNDECIDED items to <strong>refine your idea or choose a more accessible place<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 5: Complete Project 2 Prep<\/h3>\n<p><label>Use this exercise to refine your choices and ideas&#8211;you can repeat any steps, especially if you change location&#8211;and then complete the Project 2 Prep using material gates in this class Task. \u00a0<\/label><\/p>\n<p>Remember: Don&#8217;t try to tell everything about a place. Find one compelling detail, question, character, or change that opens up a larger story.
