It starts with a student as a freshman and talks about everyday occurrences and big life milestones with optimistic messaging and wraps up by looking back on the past. For the photos, I wanted to show off campus in a cool way, so I opted for more unseen places. I tried to make them flow with matching color schemes specific to all locations and keep the theme about nature and places to unwind.

While doing this project, I have definitely learned a lot and improved my skills as a photographer. It was very rewarding to be able to learn a little bit more about my camera and come back with photos that I was happy with. I got to see a lot of places on campus that I had not been to in some time and discover all new places. However, I missed the opportunity to show off more of campus during the sunset. UMaine has amazing sunsets this time of year, and I was barely able to capture a good picture. I took pictures in many different places, such as The Stillwater, Littlefield Garden and the Cornfield Trail, The Garden Research Trails, and The Littlefield Bike Trails, and on various backstage parts of campus. My approach was to try to take interesting photos of almost boring things when showing off these places, and I feel that it worked out.

What I liked the best about this project was that I got to go back to some old places I hadn’t been to in a while and see how they changed. My favorite location was the Roger F. Taylor Hall. The Bear carvings were awesome. If I had more photos and more time, I would definitely take more photos of the trails behind the Recreation Center. They have miles of cool paths that I was not able to fully explore. For future updates, I would also love to get pictures of campus in the snow. While working on this project, the skill I was able to develop the most was framing. I have always had simple and boring framing, but I believe I was able to have some unique photos for my assignment. The tip I could use in future projects that I got from other students’ projects would be to take photos at different times of day. While my photos did vary a little, most of them seem to have been taken at the same time of day, and really getting creative by taking pictures at night would have made my project stand out slightly more.

Overall, I was happy with how my assignment turned out, but I wish I had invested just a little more time taking pictures. I struggled to take interesting photos of The Stillwater and did not have the most compelling photos to share. However, I feel that with what I have learned and being able to navigate shorthand better I think if I did this again in the future, it could be much better.

Final Story Preview: https://preview.shorthand.com/3i9iOGsZGQzwvCYv My Story: The story being told is a vague retelling of college kids’ lives in small comments in the captions and smaller excerpts of text using metaphors about moments in life and our campus.
