Plan a fun trip to a cool place to capture scenes &amp; people!!<\/p>\n<p>The form will be a story (fiction or non-fiction) driven by your captured photos. NB Shorthand stories has NO featured images, and NO comments, so you &#8216;ll be adding a regular post each week.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/umainenewmedia.net\/nmd343\/place-based-story-tips\/\">Crafting Place Based Story With Photos Guide<\/a><\/h4>\n<h4>Week 1: Assignment 1a: Explore &amp; Photograph<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Watch: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Im-uBEaTtEA?si=GsZUngrDyFJBfdW2\">Maine Public Lands<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1GZCFDGcOvA\">Stop Wasting Your Time<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0KWas8A6cH4\">You&#8217;re Taking Photos Wrong<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Take a few photo walks with observation sketch, or audio notes and a few photos from each location.<br \/>\n(one might be a favorite walk\/hike)<\/li>\n<li>Decide which location will be your focus &amp; explain why<\/li>\n<li>Login to <a href=\"https:\/\/shorthand.com\/industries\/education\/\">Shorthand<\/a> &amp; begin exploration of <a href=\"https:\/\/shorthand.com\/training\/\">Shorthand<\/a> format<br \/>\nOR use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/website-builder\/\">Canva Webpage<\/a> format<\/li>\n<li>Post Project 1a:\n<ul>\n<li>Gather 4-6 images from 2-3 story locations<\/li>\n<li>Duplicate any images you want to use &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/umainenewmedia.net\/nmd343\/optimize-images\/\">Optimize<\/a>\u00a0 for upload to class wordpress<\/li>\n<li>Update image files names to \u201cyourname-project1-01\u201d then -02, etc, then upload to Media Library<\/li>\n<li>Add captions, alt text for each<\/li>\n<li>From your post, create a gallery for each location and add all images to the gallery.<\/li>\n<li>Using notes, add descriptive short paragraph for each location and reason it matters to you<\/li>\n<li>Repeat Gallery + Paragraphh description for each location<\/li>\n<li>Title: \u201cProject 1a-yourname\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Use you favorite image as featured image &amp; add short excerpt and category \u201cProject 1a\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Week 2: Assignment 1b: Update Photos<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Watch class videos &amp; do readings.<\/li>\n<li>Based on feedback, photo tips &amp; class discussion, explore the same and\/or different places and take a new\/revised set of photos. You could also crop or adjust older photos to frame your story better. Even if using a few older photos, try to add some new ones to explore more camera techniques. Also focus phots to your main location\/place.<\/li>\n<li>Begin adraft in <a href=\"https:\/\/shorthand.com\/industries\/education\/\">Shorthand<\/a>. Use the Stories tab in the WordPress Dashboard (login) to go directly to your story.<br \/>\nOR use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/website-builder\/\">Canva Webpage<\/a> format<\/li>\n<li><strong>Post<\/strong> Project 1b:\n<ul>\n<li>Focus your topic\/subject&#8211;where is the great place-based story?<\/li>\n<li>Gather dozens of photos &amp; pick the best 5-10<\/li>\n<li>Duplicate &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/umainenewmedia.net\/nmd343\/optimize-images\/\">optimize images<\/a>, use clear files names\u00a0 \u201cyourname-project1-01\u201d then -02, etc, then upload &lt;500kb<\/li>\n<li>Add captions &amp; \u00a0alt text for each image<\/li>\n<li>In you post:, add \u00a03-5 paragraph description for your location(s) and reason it matters to you; use this to further develop your story idea<\/li>\n<li>Title: \u201cProject 1b-yourname\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Use featured image &amp; add short excerpt and category \u201cProject 1b\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shorthand<\/strong> Story draft:\n<ul>\n<li>Using the Stories tab, add a new draft of your story in Shorthand &amp; publish it with a short excerpt and Shorthand tag. NO featured image.<\/li>\n<li>Title: &#8220;Project 1b-yourname-SH&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Review &amp; add comments for 2 other student stories before class next week<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Week 3: Assignment 1c: Design &amp; Layout<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Read\/view materials<\/li>\n<li>Refine &amp; expand your Shorthand story draft, adding design, images, short video if you want, and text.
