Education has been perhaps the first field to be disrupted by the advent of generative AI. Instead of using ChatGPT to avoid learning by plagiarizing, in this task you’ll explore ways AI chatbots can personalize the learning process.<\/p>\n

Process<\/h3>\n

  1. Choose a subject or skill you want to learn on your own. Your goal need not be related to this class; examples might include how to speak Italian, how to read musical notation, or how to overcome shyness in group settings.<\/li>\n
  2. Using our class’ custom interface<\/a>, ask ChatGPT to create a lesson plan for learning as much of this topic as possible over a one-hour period. (You may increase the duration if you have the time and inclination.) Ask the AI to give you at least three different learning exercises, methods, or techniques. Your prompt might look like this:\n
    \ud83d\udccd Acting as an expert teacher, create a lesson plan that covers how to build a terrarium for a class of first-year college students studying biology or exhibition design. The total duration of the lesson must not exceed one hour. List at least three activities, the objective for each, and the time each should occupy.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  3. Refine the prompt with back-and-forth dialogue until the lesson plan seems like something you can and would do in the time allotted. Make sure the AI lists specific exercises rather than giving you generic advice or pointing you to outside resources. You may suggest learning methods drawn from the sample list below.<\/li>\n
  4. Try all the activities recommended by ChatGPT. When possible, use the prompt techniques shown in class to ask it to generate interactive exercises or conversations for you.<\/li>\n
