Their familiarity often masks how unlikely they would be in reality (&#8220;OMG the enemies became lovers!&#8221;), but they are often crutches that let writers be lazy rather than challenge expectations.<\/p>\n<p>This is your chance to capture the player, viewer, or reader&#8217;s attention by breaking a clich\u00e9. The task is similar to the story clich\u00e9 exercise, except that you&#8217;ll make your own, original story. your storyboard will break the stereotype by revising the original story or inventing a new character, plot, or setting to take its place. Breaking the clich\u00e9 can happen in a single scene (as in the sample result below) or across the plot of the entire story.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc68\u200d\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udc67\u200d\ud83d\udc66\u00a0 Your team can add a single Post for this task, as long as you add everyone&#8217;s name to the title, eg &#8220;Task 4: Mary Gonzalez Pat Chen Sandy Berkowitz&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83e\udd16\u274c Do not use AI for any part of this assignment.<\/p>\n<h3>Process<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Choose a clich\u00e9 from a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/tvtropes.org\/pmwiki\/pmwiki.php\/Main\/ConsoleRPGcliches1To24\">Console RPG clich\u00e9s<\/a> and pair it with a game, movie, book, or other story that leans on it.<\/li>\n<li>At the class website, start a new post and entitle it something like<em> Task 4:Mary Gonzalez Pat Smith Sandy Park<\/em>.\u00a0 \u26a0\ufe0f Please add the names <em>before<\/em> clicking the <strong>Save Draft<\/strong> or <strong>Publish<\/strong> button so they will show up in the post stub.<\/li>\n<li>At the top of the post, type the heading &#8220;Featured clich\u00e9:&#8221; and add the name of the clich\u00e9 you chose and a description pasted from <a href=\"https:\/\/tvtropes.org\/pmwiki\/pmwiki.php\/Main\/ConsoleRPGcliches1To24\">Console RPG clich\u00e9s<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Under this, add a new heading called &#8220;Breaking the clich\u00e9&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>In a paragraph, explain how your story would surprise the reader by departing from the conventional trope (clich\u00e9).<\/li>\n<li>Add a heading for &#8220;Storyboard&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Create at least three images to represent different moments in or features of the story. You can modify existing images or draw your own (see the FAQ for suggestions).<\/li>\n<li>Click on <strong>Add Media<\/strong> and upload these to the website. We&#8217;d love to see how creative you can be with writing a non-stereotypical story. Just remember that your cliche should be a narrative pattern that is overused in stories or games.
